Vivo is a big smartphone brand in India and after making its hold in the offline market, now the company is focusing its attention in the online market. Vivo has recently launched its latest smartphone Vivo Z1 Pro in India which will be sold only on the e-commerce site Flipkart. This new and latest Vivo smartphone is specially designed for Zen Z customers who want the latest features along with good looks in the phone. Vivo Z1 Pro is equipped with good camera, battery life and good processing power for gaming.

It appears that Vivo has carefully studied the current market trends to design the Vivo Z1 Pro. Is this smartphone of Vivo brand Xiaomi, realme And Samsung Will be able to compete with the phone, it will be a matter to be seen. Today we will review Vivo Z1 Pro and it will be interesting to see whether Vivo Z1 Pro can make its place in our next list of best smartphones under Rs 20,000.

Design of Vivo Z1 Pro

The first thing that you will notice by looking at the front panel of Vivo Z1 Pro is its oversized screen. There is a hole on the left side of the screen in which the front camera has got a place. The camera hole is not very big nor does it distract you while using the phone throughout the day. Our Vivo Z1 Pro review unit sent by Vivo had a screen protector mounted on it. Even with normal use of the phone, there are marks on the plastic film.
Vivo Z1 Pro has an attractive glossy plastic rear panel that comes with a multi-colour gradient finish. The color of our review unit is Sonic Blue and its back panel has Emerald Green at the top which mixes with Kobelt Blue. The colors are saturated, as well as the effect is visible when the light falls on its back panel.

The design of the front and back panels of Vivo Z1 Pro attracts attention. Not only this, you will also get a fingerprint sensor for security on the back panel of the phone. The power and volume buttons will be found on the right side of the phone, while the SIM and microSD card tray will be found on the left side of the phone. Just below it is the Google Assistant button.

Vivo Z1 Pro has two nano-SIM slots and a separate microSD card slot. The Google Assistant button cannot be assigned to other functions. We were disappointed that Vivo is still offering a micro-USB port on its latest smartphone such as the Vivo Z1 Pro. There is also a 3.5mm headphone jack and speaker grille at the bottom of the phone.

The Vivo Z1 Pro is seen in the face of the Vivo Y17, which is equipped with the same dimensions and styling. Vivo Z1 Pro weighs a little more at 201 grams but its thickness is 8.85 mm. In the retail box, you get a flexible plastic case, heavy 18W charger, a micro-USB cable, 3.5mm wired headset, SIM eject pin and some pamphlets.

Vivo Z1 Pro Specification and Software

Vivo Z1 Pro is the first phone in India that is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 processor. This chipset was introduced earlier this year as an improvement over the Snapdragon 710 processor and is based on a 10nm processor. It has six 1.7 GHz Kryo 360 Silver cores for power and two 2.3 GHz Kryo 360 Gold cores for power.

With this, an integrated Adreno 616 and X15 LTE modem has been given for graphics. This new chipset is said to offer up to 10 percent better performance than the Snapdragon 710 and 25 percent better performance than the Snapdragon 660. The starting price of Vivo Z1 Pro is Rs 14,990. At this price, a variant with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage will be available.

The phone’s 6 GB RAM and 64 GB storage model will be sold for Rs 16,990. The most powerful variant is equipped with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage and will be sold for Rs 17,990. Vivo Z1 Pro has a 6.53-inch full-HD + (1080×2340 pixels) IPS display. The battery of Vivo Z1 Pro is 5,000 mAh and it supports 18 W fast charging.

The company’s own dual-engine fast charging technology has been used in this phone of Vivo brand. Apart from this, dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth version 5, GPS support is included but you will not get NFC and FM radio. Apart from all the usual sensors, the Vivo Z1 Pro also includes a gyroscope and e-compass.

Vivo phones run on Funtouch OS which is heavily modified for Android 9. The main feature of Funtouch OS is the game enhancement which Vivo has named Game Mode but it is also called GameCube and Game Box at different places in the UI. This includes special optimization for PUBG Mobile.

Apart from this, there is 4D vibration as well as you will be able to enjoy 3D surround sound. The countdown feature has been given in Vivo Z1 Pro, with the help of which you will be able to do other things till your next round comes. The Vivo Z1 Pro has an esports mode that will close all apps running in the background, as well as block notifications and disable temperature throttling to enhance performance. According to Vivo, more features including voice chat filters will be added to the Vivo Z1 Pro in future updates.

Vivo Z1 Pro performance, battery life and cameras

One thing that is good because of increasing competition is that smartphones are being launched at a lower price, which is why today budget smartphones have enough power to use them every day. We did not slow down the phone while using Vivo Z1 Pro. After heavy modification, there was no performance issue in Funtouch OS.

We have 6 GB RAM and 64 GB storage variant of Vivo Z1 Pro for review. The display of Vivo Z1 Pro is very sharp and clear in all conditions. The viewing angles of the phone are also good but we think some people will find that the colors are not as vivid as they are on phones with amoled panels.

You can adjust the color temperature and there’s also a system-wide dark mode, though not all third-party apps recognize it. The status bar at the top of the screen is thick enough to surround the front camera hole when using the Funtouch OS UI and apps that don’t go full-screen.

We found it a bit distracting when watching the video on Vivo Z1 Pro. Quick diagnostics revealed that the phone only supports Widevine L3 DRM, which means you won’t be able to stream HD content on Netflix. The sound comes very loud from the single speaker given at the bottom of the phone, but it starts getting distorted in loud noises.

The headset that comes with the phone looks like Apple EarPods but the sound for calls is just fine. On paper, the Snapdragon 712 processor gives the Vivo Z1 Pro the slim edge and at this price point it could be attractive to customers who want the latest specifications at this price point. But at the moment it is difficult to tell how much difference it makes with everyday use.

If we compare with Reality 3 Pro (Review) and Oppo R17 Pro (Review), then Snapdragon 710 processor has been used in both the smartphones. The CPU-heavy benchmark scores noticeably higher while the GPU-focused test showed a slight improvement. The camera dot didn’t interfere during full-screen gaming as it was almost always covered by our thumbs.

Both PUBG Mobile and Asphalt 9: Legends game ran smoothly on high settings. For the information of you people, let us tell you that the phone was only slightly heated. The battery life of Vivo Z1 Pro was also very good. We were able to use the Vivo Z1 Pro for over a day and a half and that included using 4G data, streaming a few videos, snapping a lot of pictures, and playing games for about an hour.

The Vivo Z1 Pro supported us for 18 hours and 32 minutes in our HD video loop test. The upcoming 18W charger on the Vivo Z1 Pro is very fast and we were surprised to see the Vivo Dual Engine fast charging even with the third party charger. However, this phone gets hot when the phone is fast charged.

Vivo Z1 Pro is equipped with three rear cameras. On the rear, there is a 16-megapixel primary sensor with an F / 1.78 lens, an 8-megapixel secondary sensor with a 120-degree super wide angle lens, and a 2-megapixel third sensor. There is a 32-megapixel sensor for selfie lovers. Its aperture is F / 2.0.

Camera features like AI Filter, Backlight HDR, Portrait Bokeh, Portrait Light Effects, AI Stickers, AI Beauty and Live Photos are part of this phone. Talking about Vivo’s camera app UI, the button to switch between the primary and wide-angle camera is small. Apart from this, instead of giving portrait mode for depth effect, a separate button has been given.

Options like slow-motion and time-lapse in video mode are hidden in the menu. We were quite impressed with the pictures taken with the Vivo Z1 Pro. Colors were good in the pictures and the detail in the focus area was also captured well. Natural and artificial textures look good in most cases. Wide-angle shots with the secondary rear camera were far less crisp and looked over-processed. There was also a slight warping on the sides of the frame.

After enabling the depth effect, we were able to capture some decent pictures with smooth background blur, though edge detection wasn’t perfect all the time. You can adjust the level of blur even after taking a shot in Vivo’s Albums app. The pictures taken at night were also good. The noise was also in control and the colors were also captured well. But as expected there was some blur in the picture with the moving object.

Let us tell you that by default video is recorded at 1280×720 and at this resolution some grains are visible. You can shoot videos at 30fps to 4K with Vivo Z1 Pro. Vivo has not said anything about video stabilization in the specification sheet of the phone. You can’t switch between standard and wide-angle lenses when shooting video. Photos taken with the front camera were also good. You won’t get depth effect or portrait mode, but you can apply lighting effects which are somewhat like subtle filters.

our decision

Overall, Vivo has done a great job with its latest Z1 Pro. When we reviewed the Vivo Y17 some time back, we said that it looked outclass for the price. This phone has almost every feature that is needed while using it throughout the day. Its selling point is that for less than Rs 20,000, the Vivo Z1 Pro is equipped with a hole-punch selfie camera and three rear cameras.

Vivo has given good specifications considering the competition in the smartphone and we did not feel that there is any such feature left in the phone which is being provided by other handset company. Vivo Z1 Pro is a strong all-rounder and definitely a smartphone to be considered if you are a Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro ,review, Samsung Galaxy M40 ,review, Galaxy A50 ,review) either Realme 3 Pro If you are thinking of buying any of them. However, the Vivo Z1 Pro has scored quite well in performance and battery life and comes equipped with a bigger display and a modern punch-hole camera.
