Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has alleged that micro-blogging site Twitter is working under pressure from the central government. The Congress MP has written a letter saying that Twitter has slowed down the growth of his followers. At the same time, Twitter has denied the allegations in this case, saying that the company has zero tolerance for manipulation and spam. Rahul Gandhi wrote a letter to Twitter CEO Parag Agarwal on 27 December. It said, I believe that Twitter has an unintentional involvement in curbing free and fair speech in India.

According to a news agency report, Rahul has told that his followers have become almost stable since August 2021. Earlier, his followers were increasing at the rate of more than 2.3 lakhs every month. In a few months, this number had even reached 6.5 lakh. He has also sent a data analysis of his Twitter account. It is told that after August last year, the number of his followers has hardly increased. At present it is 19.6 million.

Not considering the decline in his number of followers as a mere coincidence, Rahul said that many of his videos were also dropped. In one of them, Rahul Gandhi told farmers that all three agricultural laws would be repealed. That video also went viral.

It is worth noting that Twitter had also suspended Rahul Gandhi’s account for almost a week from August 6 to August 14. The reason for this was the tweet in which he had allegedly shared a picture of the family of a rape victim in New Delhi on Twitter.

In response to Rahul Gandhi’s letter, a Twitter spokesperson has said that we also want the number of followers to show with the account, but we also believe that the followers should be genuine. Twitter has no place for manipulation and spam. We sort out bot followers and spam every week through machine learning tools. Twitter has said that we remove millions of accounts every week for violating our policies on platform manipulation and spam.
