US-based home rental company Airbnb is suspending all its operations in Russia and Belarus. The company’s Chief Executive Officer Brian Chesky has given this information by tweeting. Chesky announced that the company would suspend all operations in Russia and Belarus amid the current crisis in Ukraine. Recently, the company’s CEO had told that the company is working to provide free homes to 1 lakh refugees displaced from Ukraine.

Chesky has appealed to the people of Ukraine’s neighboring countries through tweets to help Airbnb provide homes for refugees. He said that we need people in surrounding countries, including Poland, Germany, Hungary and Romania, who can offer us their homes. He told that everyone will be accommodated free of cost in these houses. Its expenses will be raised with the help of Airbnb and donors.

After the Russo-Ukraine war, many companies have stopped or limited their operations in Russia. Netflix has also temporarily halted all its future projects and acquisitions in Russia. The Cannes Film Festival has also issued a statement saying that it will ban Russia’s official delegation at the 2022 Cannes Festival until the Ukraine conflict ends.

Ukraine is also getting help in large scale cryptocurrencies. The Ukrainian government has raised around $8 million (about Rs 60 crore) in cryptocurrencies after posting an appeal on social media.

Apple, one of the world’s biggest smartphone brands, has stopped selling iPhones and other products in Russia due to the attack on Ukraine. American brands like Google, Ford and Harley Davidson have also distanced themselves from Russia. Google-run Alphabet Inc. has removed Russian publishers from its platform.

Ford Motor has informed its manufacturing partner in Russia of the closure and Harley Davidson has stopped its business and shipment of bikes to Russia. British satellite company OneWeb has decided to suspend all launches from Russia’s Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
